Police are searching for two men after a vehicle sped away from police Monday afternoon.
Around noon, Guelph police received a report of two adult males slumped over inside a grey Mazda CX-5 motor vehicle parked in a commercial parking lot located near the intersection of Speedvale Avenue West and Edinburgh Road North.
At 12:35 p.m., police located the vehicle backed into a parking spot with its back tires against a curb. Police parked their cruiser directly in front of the vehicle and located two males inside who were both sleeping.
Upon waking the males up, the driver refused to roll down the window and turned on the ignition. He then put the vehicle in reverse and backed over the curb and sidewalk, entering the roadway on Speedvale Avenue West. The vehicle was last seen turning northbound on Edinburgh Road North, travelling at a high rate of speed.
A pursuit was not initiated due to concerns for public safety.
Further investigation revealed that the license plate did not match the vehicle, and the males had been parked in the parking lot since 7:55am.
The males are described as:
-Brown, 30-40 years of age, short black hair, black facial hair, wearing a black jacket and jeans
