FERGUS – After nearly a decade of planning and building, Groves Memorial Community Hospital (GMCH) will officially move to the new facility on Aug. 9.
In a press release, GMCH board chair Jackie Ranahan said they are thrilled to announce the move-in date.
“Despite the challenges of COVID-19, great work has been done over the past few months to resolve any deficiencies at the new Groves Hospital building in order to move in August,” Ranahan said in a press release.
The new 152,000 sq. ft. facility is in Aboyne, between Elora and Fergus, on 30 acres of rural land behind the Wellington County Museum and Archives.
CEO Stephen Street said over the next two months, staff will begin training to familiarize themselves with the new space, workflow and equipment.
“We will make sure all staff and physicians feel confident and comfortable for opening day to ensure safe delivery of patient care,” Street said in a press release.
Ranahan thanked the Groves Hospital Foundation, donors and volunteers for raising funds for nearly all the new hospital equipment and technology.
“With this support, we are excited to open an impressive, modern hospital that will support the needs of our communities and rural residents,” Ranahan said in a press release.
Due to current restrictions from the pandemic, there will be no official grand opening celebration.
“As much as we would love to have a Grand Opening and welcome visitors, we will continue to adhere to Public Health Guidance as it relates to limiting visitors,” Street said in a press release. “We look forward to celebrating the opening of the New Hospital with the community when it is safe to do so.”
