TOWN OF MINTO - Today shortly after 6 a.m., members of the South Bruce and Huron Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a criminal investigation in the area of Concession Road 4 at Side Road 25 South near Teeswater, County of South Bruce.
Uniform and Emergency Response Team (ERT) officers were conducting containment at that location when a vehicle entered into the area and was observed being operated in a dangerous manner.
OPP Aviation Services were called in to assist ground units by monitoring the suspect vehicle's location. Units from South Bruce, Huron, Perth, Wellington and other neighbouring Police Agencies received real time updates from the Eurocopter EC135.
While the vehicle was travelling on Wellington Road 87 towards Harriston it left the roadway and entered a cornfield, attempting to evade the helicopter. The flight crew continued to monitor the two suspects as they fled on foot through cornfields and wooded areas.
OPP members including two canine units tracked and arrested the male and female suspects near Harriston without further incident. The suspects have been transported to a local Operations Centre for further processing.
The investigation is still ongoing at this time and more information will be released as it becomes available. Wellington Road 87 was closed between Highway 23 and Minto School Road 7 for a period of time and has since reopened.
