On July 4, 2018 at approximately 5:30 p.m., Guelph Police received a call for a report of a CRA scam. The fraudster(s) posed as the CRA and demanded the individual pay in Google Play cards. This scam resulted in the individual being defrauded $5000.

On July 4, 2018 at approximately 1:10 p.m., Guelph Police received a report of a CRA scam. The fraudster(s) posed as the CRA and demanded the individual pay in iTunes gift cards. This scam resulted in the individual being defrauded $5000.

The Guelph Police Service would like to remind you to use caution when/if you are contacted by someone who claims to be from the CRA. The CRA will never use aggressive language or tone, request payment using gift cards or prepaid cards, or threaten arrest or send police. And remember, if you receive a telephone call or email from CRA and have ANY suspicion that it is not them, do not provide any personal information and do not contact the caller/sender.
