HARRISTON – Ontario Super Storage Inc. wants to expand its business in the Harriston Industrial Park.
Minto council will be deliberating and finalizing the purchase and sale agreement of 0.9 acres in the park with Ontario Super Storage Inc. at its virtual council meeting on Tuesday. The sale price for the unserviced land is $31,850.
At the beginning of June 2021, Doug Kuyvenhoven, owner of Ontario Super Storage Inc. expressed interest in obtaining additional land in the Harriston Industrial Park to expand their business.
The Harriston Industrial Park has approximately 12 acres of unserviced land extending from John Street.
Ontario Super Storage Inc. plans to build a 5,000 square foot storage building this year.
According to a report prepared by Belinda Wick-Graham, town’s director of economic and community development, the company has plans to develop additional buildings as demand continues to increase, which at current pace could be one building a year.
“This is a 12.75 per cent lot coverage on the 0.9-acre addition, however when combined with their existing property and buildings, which is 13,200 square foot, they would be exceeding the 15 per cent lot coverage requirement,” stated in the report.
A construction start in 2022 would meet the time to build a development agreement, and since the property would be merged with their existing property, no additional services are required for this development.
“The Town of Minto has always supported the expansion of existing businesses, and as Harriston grows the need for storage units will also increase,” said Wick-Graham.
“Severing off 0.9 acres from the 12 acres allows this business to grow without us having to invest in services for the remainder of the Harriston Industrial Park currently.”
