A Guelph police vehicle sits outside John F. Ross CVI on Meyer Drive Tuesday morning following a bomb threat.

Police found “nothing of concern” after searching a Guelph high school in response to an emailed bomb threat discovered early Monday morning.

A bomb-sniffing dog was brought in from the OPP, explained Guelph police spokesperson Scott Tracey. Efforts to clear the school began at about 9:30 a.m. and the school was deemed clear shortly before 11:30 a.m.

“Nothing of concern was located,” police announced via social media. “The investigation is ongoing.”

The Shoppers Drug Mart on Eramosa, which is directly beside the school, was also briefly kept closed after the threat was received.

The ordeal began at about 6:15 a.m. when a school administrator opened an email containing the bomb threat, Tracey told GuelphToday. The building was subsequently evacuated (students hadn’t arrived for the day) and police positioned  officers in vehicles at each driveway entrance to make sure no one entered.

Students and staff were told to pivot to remote learning and teaching for the day. Both were asked to not attend the school.

Parents also received a direct email from the school board Tuesday morning informing them of the situation.
