Teen arrested in John F. Ross false bomb threat

A Guelph teenager has been arrested after a bomb threat which shut down a local high school Monday, Guelph police report.

Approximately 6:15 a.m., police received a call from an administrator at John F Ross CVI about a threatening email received overnight.

The Upper Grand District School Board moved the day’s classes to online, instructing all staff and students to stay away from the school. Several police officers surrounded the school until an extensive search was completed by members of the Tactics and Rescue Unit with assistance from an OPP canine unit trained to detect explosives.

Nothing of concern was located in the school and the building was turned over to school board officials approximately 11:30 a.m.

As a result of the investigation, a 14-year-old from Guelph was located and arrested for public mischief and two counts of uttering threats. The youth has been released with an upcoming court date.
