Two store break-ins, with cigarettes, lottery tickets and cash taken

Both happened early Friday; ‘It’s not known if they are related,’ say police

Police are investigating a pair of variety store break-ins which saw thieves make off with quantities of cigarettes, lottery tickets and cash.

The incidents happened at opposite ends of the city, within about 20 minutes of each other.

“It is not known if they are related,” states a police news release. “Both incidents remain under investigation.”

The first break-in was reported at about 3:20 a.m., in the area of Fife and Elmira roads, the release explains. The store’s owner had received an alarm notification on his phone and could see three men removing a large quantity of cigarettes, as well as lottery tickets and cash.

Each of the suspect males wore a mask and gloves. One had on a blue sweater and green or grey jeans, while the other two wore black.

They left the scene in a black, four-door Infinity, police note.

About 20 minutes later, thieves hit a variety store on the east side of town, in the area of Eastview Road and Watson Parkway North.

Again, the owner received a mobile alert and could see a live feed of people inside the store.

About $15,000 worth of cigarettes were reported stolen, along with a quantity of cash.
