Guelph Police is investigating after three teens were seen grabbing a parcel off a porch in the city’s west end on Wednesday.
A neighbour called police after seeing the three males dressed all in black take the package from a home in the area of Willow Road and Applewood Crescent just before 3 p.m. Police checked the area but were unable to locate the males. The package contained ‘Baby Yoda’ party decorations valued at $15.
Thefts of packages from front porches is a growing problem across North America, leading to the coining of the term “porch pirates.” Residents are encouraged to protect themselves from such crimes of opportunity by installing surveillance cameras, attempting to have deliveries scheduled when someone will be home, making arrangements with neighbours to watch for each other’s packages or exploring options such as having packages shipped to a store or postal outlet to be collected.
Anyone with information about Wednesday’s theft is asked to call Const. Adam Shutsa at 519-824-1212, ext. 7335, email him at [email protected], leave an anonymous tip at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or leave an anonymous tip online at www.csgw.tips.
