On the afternoon of Feb. 6, 2020, an adult male and an adult female were observed with a black laptop bag at restaurant located near the intersection of Wellington Street West and Imperial Road South in the City of Guelph. The pair eventually exited the restaurant leaving the bag behind. After inspecting the bag, restaurant staff contacted the Guelph Police Service.
The bag contained a dismantled 12 gauge sawed-off shotgun in four pieces accompanied by a green pencil case containing 22 12GA shotgun shells.
At 8:37 p.m., the male and female were located at another store in the same commercial plaza and arrested.
A search incident to arrest revealed the female was in possession of two prohibited knives.
A 34-year-old Serpent River First Nation female has been charged with:
• Careless use of firearm/ammunition
• Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
• Carrying concealed weapon
• Unauthorized possession of firearm
• Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm
• Possession of prohibited firearm
• Tampering with serial number of firearm
• Firearm or weapon: possession contrary to prohibition order x2
• Possession of prohibited weapon x2
A 33-year-old Culter male has been charged with:
• Careless use of firearm/ammunition
• Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
• Carrying concealed weapon
• Unauthorized possession of firearm
• Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm
• Possession of prohibited firearm
• Tampering with serial number of firearm
• Firearm or weapon: possession contrary to prohibition order x2
They were both held in custody pending a bail hearing on Feb. 7, 2020.
