Cabbie 'seriously' injured after customer refuses to pay

A Guelph man faces robbery and assault charges after a taxi driver was seriously injured Saturday afternoon, Gueph police report.

Just before 4 p.m. emergency services were called to Paisley Road and Imperial Road South. A taxi driver had dropped a man off at a plaza and waited while the man went into a bank to get money for the fare.

When the man exited the bank and began to walk away, the cabbie drove towards him and reminded him to pay the fare. The male responded by punching the cabbie through the open window, causing a significant injury to the side of his head.

The man was located a short distance away and arrested after gesturing to punch a police officer.

A 27-year-old Guelph man is charged with robbery, assault causing bodily harm and assaulting police. He was held for a bail hearing.
