Victoria Road is closed between Grange Street and Delmar Boulevard after a person on a bicycle was struck by a vehicle.

An “elderly” female cyclist suffered serious injuries in a hit-and-run collision in the city’s east end early Thursday afternoon. As police continue to investigate, they’ve calling for witnesses and anyone with dashcam or surveillance video to step forward.

The incident was reported on Victoria Road North, in front of the entrance to St. John Catholic Elementary School, at 12:59 p.m.

There’s no indication the driver stopped to check on the victim’s condition, said Guelph police spokesperson Scott Tracey.

“If anyone was in the area and saw what happened or they saw a vehicle quickly leaving the area around that time … we’d appreciate if they gave us a call,” said Tracey, directing people to the Guelph Police Service non-emergency line at 519-824-1212.

The road remained closed in the area at about 4:30 p.m. as investigators gathered evidence and worked to reconstruct what happened.
