BREAKING: John F. Ross closed today due to bomb threat

Police and the school board do not believe the threat to be credible but are taking precautions

John F. Ross high school will be closed today following reports of a bomb threat.

"Early this morning, we became aware that a bomb threat was made against John F. Ross CVI," said a news release from the Upper Grand District School Board sent around 7:45 a.m.

"We take all of these situations very seriously, and immediately contacted Guelph Police. Guelph Police are at the school and are currently investigating the situation.

"While this has not been confirmed as a credible threat, we have decided to move to remote learning for the day.  The safety and well-being of students is always our number one concern and the top concern of all our staff members."

Guelph police spokesperson Scott Tracey said police were notified by a school administrator at 6:15 a.m. Monday that they had received an email containing the threat.

Tracey confirmed at 7:50 a.m. that the school is now completely vacant, with officers positioned around the school to make sure no one enters while police are investigating the matter.

Students and staff were told to pivot to remote learning and teaching for the day. Both were asked to not attend the school.

Parents also received a direct email from the school board Tuesday morning.
