The Guelph Storm has signed an NCAA commit for the first time.
Lev Katzin is moving over to the Ontario Hockey League, signing an agreement with the Storm.
Katzin, who has spent the last two seasons with the USHL's Green Bay Gamblers, was originally Guelph's fifth-round choice in the 2023 OHL Priority Selection.
He is the latest in what has been a long line of NCAA commits moving to the OHL, with the recent change allowing players to play major junior without eliminating their NCAA eligibility.
The Penn State University commit potted 39 points in 66 games over the last two years in the USHL.
In his draft year, Katzin scored 56 goals and 143 points in 81 games with the Toronto Marlboros U16 AAA program.
He was also part of Team Canada White at the 2023 U17 World Hockey Challenge, where he won gold on the same team with Storm defender Rylan Singh.
“Lev was amongst the elite players available in his OHL draft year,” general manager George Burnett said in a news release.
“Lev has an impressive skill set and skating ability and we look forward to him contributing in all situations for our hockey club.”
The 17-year-old is eligible for the 2025 NHL Draft.
He has six points in nine games with the Gamblers this season, but is recovering from an upper-body injury.
The Storm expects him to join the lineup in the near future.
