It’s the little mid-week market that could.
The Rockwood Farmers Market, which started in 2015, runs every Wednesday from June 13th to Oct. 4 from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in downtown Rockwood.
“It’s grown. It grows every year,” says Mary Beth Bruce, the market manager.
“We get locals, we get people passing through and we get people from the conservation area,” Bruce said.
“It’s to celebrate local, be able to get fresh produce in one place and to have a community gathering space.”
Aided by a highly-visible location on Main Street, just south of where it meets Highway 7, the market gets lots of regular locals but also a steady stream of people passing by.
Fruit, vegetables and meat, most of it locally grown, are abundant. Preserves and raw honey. Fresh-baked goods, smoked fish and apple fritters made on the spot are all part of the offerings.
There is also children’s activities and live entertainment.
