The Guelph Public Library is calling 2023 a year to celebrate, after hitting some big numbers, according to its year in review.
Of note, the library said 1.99 million people checked out one of its physical buildings and website.
There were also 2.23 million items checked out, or an average of 6,308 items a day. The 2.23 million represents an increase from 2.13 million in 2022.
The library's busiest day was Apr. 6, with 8,766 items checked out, and Tuesday’s were the most popular day of the week.
Leading the way was children’s print materials, at 39 per cent.
In addition, more people were flocking to the library in 2023. It said 8,454 new cardholders accessed resources at some point last year, representing an increase of 16.6 per cent.
It wasn’t just checking out books and items either.
The library said almost 26,000 people participated in one of its programs at one of its locations.
It also noted 3,276 people used its Makerspace, located at the Westminster Square Branch, which encourages creation, discovery and more in a hands-on learning environment.
