Michael Chong has won his sixth re-election campaign to represent Wellington-Halton Hills.

WELLINGTON COUNTY – A familiar face in Wellington County will be running in the next federal election.

Longtime Wellington-Halton Hills MP Michael Chong confirmed via email he will be seeking re-election whenever the next election occurs.

Chong has served as a MP for Wellington-Halton Hills, a riding that includes southern Wellington County and Halton Hills, as a Conservative Party of Canada candidate for seven terms. He was first elected in 2004 when the riding was first created.

The next election Chong runs in may have him running in a differently configured riding, depending on when the election is held. The new riding, called Wellington-Halton Hills North, removes Georgetown from the riding and adds south Guelph.

With a minority government in power, an election could in theory happen any time but the latest the next federal election will be held is Oct. 20, 2025.
