Academics everywhere are assembling panels to conduct postmortems on a Donald Trump U.S. presidential victory that shocked many.

Everyone is now trying to figure out how and why he won, and what the implications of his victory will be.

The department of political science at the University of Guelph is doing the same. On Friday, 11:30 a.m. professor David MacDonald will welcome University of Toronto political scientist Clifford Orwin and Toronto Star columnist Judith Timson in a discussion about what Trump means for Canada.

The implications could be significant – in trade, national security, and the environment.

According to a U of G press release, the panel members believe the Trump campaign brings into sharp focus the power of social media, and the importance of a compelling campaign message that connects with large numbers of voters.

The 90-minute panel discussion will happen in the MacKinnon Building, Room 120. It is free and open to the general public.
