The Foundation of Guelph General Hospital is excited to announce a $500,000 donation from local philanthropists, Ted and Neena Kohli. This generous gift will directly support the hospital's most pressing needs as well as an updated Welcome Centre, enhancing the quality of patient care and ensuring the availability of essential medical equipment.
The Kohlis, long-time residents of Guelph and prominent figures in the local business community, have expressed their commitment to improving healthcare for residents of Guelph and Wellington County. For its part, Guelph General Hospital plans to allocate a portion of the gift to renovate its existing information desk and will be consulting with the Patient & Family Advisory Council and staff in the months to come. The new Ted and Neena Kohli Welcome Centre will honour the couple's philanthropic spirit and help the hospital create a more welcoming first impression for patients and care partners.
Mark Walton, CEO of Guelph General Hospital, said, “At Guelph General, we strive to welcome patients and care partners as members of the healthcare team. When people enter the main doors of our hospital, it can be overwhelming.” He continued, “Improving that experience is an important step to ensuring an inclusive, inviting environment, and it’s only possible because of Ted and Neena Kohli’s gift. Their desire to help us improve patient experience also extends to supporting patient care equipment to meet the healthcare needs of our growing community. We are incredibly grateful for their support.”
“Moving to Canada at age 22 was far from easy. But, through hard work, perseverance, and the ability to seize opportunities, I’m proud to be in a position where we can give back to the community that has supported me for all these years. By donating to the hospital, Neena and I hope to inspire others to join us in supporting Guelph and making a real difference.” Neena added, “We have always felt a strong connection to Guelph, and want to contribute to the well-being of our community and ensure that everyone has access to quality healthcare when they need it most.” Their generosity not only enhances healthcare facilities but also underscores their dedication to the community they’ve called home for decades.
Ted and Neena Kohli have been proud residents of Guelph for over 40 years, raising their family and building a strong foundation in the community. Through Ted’s role as President of Robinson Buick GMC and involvement in other businesses, they have contributed not only to the local economy but also to the well-being of the city by supporting various community organizations including Guelph General Hospital.
As Guelph and Wellington County continue to grow, so do the needs of the hospital. In addition to the welcome centre improvements, the Kohlis’ gift will directly support the acquisition of vital patient equipment, including surgical instruments, diagnostic tools, IV pumps, vital signs monitors, and specialized patient beds. With community donations like the Kohlis' playing a crucial role in funding every piece of patient care equipment at Guelph General, this gift will ensure the hospital can continue to deliver exceptional care.
