Girls & Guitars, an annual Hillside Inside event, takes place Saturday, Feb. 11.

The event features musical expression from several female artists at different stages of their life.

This weekend's shows are part of Hillside Inside and will feature six performances between 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at different locations.

“We’ve had students as young as 13 and as old as people in their sixties. So they're in different points of their lives and what unites them is the desire to express something creatively about themselves or about their experiences through music," says Marie Zimmerman.

The event encourages the performers to exercise their creativity and display their passion for music.

“We were aware that the music industry was in favour of men. And so we wanted to give space and a voice to women's perspectives and give them a chance at a career as well,” says Zimmerman.

This year's performances schedule is:

11:30 a.m.: Lynn Jackson, Guelph Music

Noon: ROSI3, Pod Fashion and Design

12:30 p.m.: Hillside songwriting students, Planet Bean

1 p.m.: Regina Gently, Market Square
