Four of seven Wellington County mayors to be acclaimed

In total there will be 17 of 48 mayor and councillor positions acclaimed in the county

WELLINGTON COUNTY – As the nomination period for October's municipal election closed on Friday afternoon, it appears four mayors will be acclaimed in Wellington County. 

Minto Mayor Dave Turton, Guelph/Eramosa's Chris White, Mapleton's Gregg Davidson and Puslinch's James Seeley all had no contenders register by the 2 p.m. deadline.

In total, across seven lower-tier municipalities and the upper-tier county municipality, 17 out of 48 mayor or councillor positions are expected to be acclaimed according to municipal clerks reached by EloraFergusToday. 

In the Town of Minto, the entire seven-person council will be acclaimed along with Turton and deputy mayor Jean Anderson. There will be a two-person race between incumbent David Anderson and challenger Bert Beilke for Minto’s county councillor seat. 

In Guelph/Eramosa, one of four councillor positions in Guelph/Eramosa will be acclaimed. 

In Mapleton, Davidson is that municipality’s lone acclaimed position.

In Puslinch, Seeley is will be acclaimed along with Puslinch county council representative Matthew Bulmer.

Two councillors and two county councillors representing Wellington North have been acclaimed. 

Erin county councillor Jeff Duncan will get another term. Four out of nine county council seats were acclaimed. 

Barring any other circumstances, there will be no acclamations in Centre Wellington beyond one county council seat shared with Wellington North.

Municipalities will certify an official list of candidates at a later date.
