The City of Guelph is losing its lawyer.

Donna Jaques, who has been city solicitor since 2011, has handed in her resignation to take a position with Ontario Northland Railway.

Chief Administrative Officer Derrick Thomson confirmed the move Monday morning. He said Jaques’ last day is Feb. 8.

“She has resigned to take a position with Ontario Northland,” Thomson said. “We wish her well.”

He said she starts her new position at Ontario Northland Railway in North Bay on Feb. 8.

“She’s still working out her notice and we’re working together and putting a plan together on the files that she was working on until we recruit for a new city solicitor,” Thomson said.

Jaques joined the city as City Solicitor and General Manager of Legal and Realty Services in 2011.

Prior to that she held the same position with the municipality of Chatham-Kent.

According to the province’s 2016 Sunshine List her salary was $160,165.
