Have you ever shovelled the driveway just to have one of the city’s snow plows drive past, leaving a fresh pile of snow for you to remove right after you’re done? Now the city is offering a real-time plow tracker to let you see where they are in real time.

The plow tracker is one of a number of maps created from open data that are part of the city’s new GeoDataHub.

On Wednesday, the City of Guelph officially launched its new GeoDataHub, which give residents a one-stop access to the city’s searchable open data and open information.

One of the popular maps available on the GeoDataHub web site is a real-time plow tracker, which shows the GPS location of the working plows in the city in real time.

Other maps on the GeoDataHub include a park locator, a zoning map and a street tree ownership map, which classifies if a tree is considered to be on your property or the responsibility of the city.

A Neighbourhood Awesomeness Map allows residents to pinpoint where great things are happening within neighbourhoods. So far, community gardens, an accessible food market and just a good tree to read under have been identified on that map.

The GeoDataHub went live earlier this year, but the official launch was held Thursday in celebration of GIS Day 2018,  a worldwide event celebrating the technology of Geographic Information Systems.

The city says the GeoDataHub is part of its commitment to enhancing transparency and accountability.
