NEWS RELEASE
GUELPH COMEDY FESTIVAL
*************************
The Guelph Comedy Festival, which promises Canada’s best sketch, improv, and stand-up is returning Oct. 16 - Oct. 19 in downtown Guelph.
This year’s festival features acts from all of Canada’s major festivals including Just for Laughs, JFL 42, Winnipeg Comedy Festival, Toronto Sketch Fest, Toronto Fringe and performers and writers from The Second City Toronto, Baroness Von Sketch, Kim’s Convenience, TallBoyz, The Beaverton, and oh so much more.
“This festival is a non-profit organization, which exists only because of the continued support from Guelph’s growing comedy community,” says Hayley Kellett, co-owner of sponsors The Making-Box, and Guelph Comedy Festival board member. “In addition to some of Canada’s best touring comedians, this year will also feature a higher percentage of locally-grown troupes and performers than we’ve ever had before.”
Guelph Comedy Festival will feature a new show every night starting on Wednesday, Oct. 16 when first-time stand-up comedians take the stage in a Guelph Comedy Festival tradition.
The Thursday, Oct. 17 show is an all-female and non-binary lineup with headliner Gillian Bartucci (Best of Fest at Montreal and Toronto Sketch Fest) performing solo sketch show, The Weight of it All. Friday, Oct. 18 features a locally-sourced improv special featuring The Making-Box Brigade and special guests performing with 3-piece rock band The David Stein Trio.
The Festival culminates on Saturday, Oct. 19 in a four-show block party celebration with sketch comedy duo The Templeton Philharmonic (Best of LA Sketch Fest, Toronto Sketch Fest) and stand-up headliners Aliya Kanani (Just for Laughs, Melbourne International Comedy Fest) and Chris Locke (CBC’s The Debaters, Baroness Von Sketch).
Guelph Comedy Festival has a new show every night starting next Wednesday. All tickets, performer bios and schedules for the festival are available now online through www.guelphcomedyfestival.com.
