WATER CONDITIONS STATEMENT
GRAND RIVER CONSERVATION AUTHORITY
*************************
A brief warming trend is forecast to move into the Grand River watershed on Monday, December 26, 2016. Temperatures are forecast to briefly rise to about 10 C before a cold front moves into the watershed early Tuesday morning. The weather forecast currently indicates that 10 to 25 mm of rainfall may accompany this event.
Much of the rain should be absorbed by the snow pack and snowmelt should be light, given the short duration of above freezing temperatures. This event should not produce a large volume of runoff, therefore stream and river levels are not expected to result in flooding.
This statement will be in effect until Wednesday, December 28. River conditions and weather forecasts will be monitored closely and updates will be issued as warranted.
Stay Safe
The public is reminded to exercise extreme caution around all water bodies. Banks adjacent to rivers and creeks are very slippery at this time and, when combined with the expected weather conditions, pose a serious hazard. Parents are encouraged to keep their children and pets away from all watercourses and off frozen water bodies, which may be weakened as a result of the warming trend.
