PUSLINCH – Mayor James Seeley announced at Wednesday’s council meeting that the province has recommitted to the Highway 6 bypass.

According to a press release from the province, the new design will directly connect Highway 6 and the 401, bypassing Morriston.

This expansion will address the issue of traffic bottlenecks in Morriston from traffic moving between Hamilton and the 401.

“This project is essential to improving transportation between Hamilton and Highway 401,” said Donna Skelly, Flamborough-Glanbrook MPP, in a press release. “It will improve the flow of traffic along this vital economic corridor, ensure growth of the region and reduce the frustration of drivers and village residents trapped in lengthy traffic jams.”

The plan to expand Highways 6 and 401 includes:

  • Widening Highway 401 from six to ten lanes, including two managed lanes between Highway 6 North and Highway 6 South

  • Constructing two new interchanges and improvements to existing interchanges

  • A new five-kilometre multi-lane divided highway, bypassing the community of Morriston

Seeley said he was very excited as council and staff had been advocating for this for years. Some on council were disappointed there was no official start date but overall pleased to see a recommitment from the province.

“If this project goes forward, there’s going to be a huge economic benefit to Puslinch,” Seeley said.
