ABOYNE – After five years of fundraising, the New Groves Hospital has exceeded their $20 million goal.
In a media release, Groves Hospital Foundation announced that a recent $500,000 donation from the Sorbara Group of Companies and Tribute Communities pushed them past their goal. The donation is one of the largest ever received by the foundation.
Lori Arsenault, executive director of the Groves Hospital Foundation, said in a media release that the years of fundraising covered 10 per cent of the build and almost all equipment and technology at the hospital.
Arsenault had previously explained that most equipment in Ontario hospitals is funded through community donations like the ones from Sorbara and Tribute.
“Their support both for the growth of our community and for the future of health care for our residents is so truly appreciated,” Arsenault said. “Groves Hospital Foundation is so excited to celebrate the successful completion of the New Groves Hospital campaign.”
Tribute and Sorbara are developers of the planned Storybrook community located near the new hospital.
“The future residents of Storybrook will reside close to the New Groves Hospital and can be proud that the developers of their community, Sobara and Tribute, helped fund our project in such a meaningful way,” said Stephen Street, Groves Memorial Community Hospital president.
Representatives from both developers said they are proud to support the hospital which will serve the future residents of their development and the existing community.
The Obstetrical/Surgical Inpatient Unit at New Groves will be named after the developers in recognition of their donation.
The New Groves Hospital is set to open on Aug. 9.
