Mount Forest main street properties seeking grants for building improvements

A report to Wellington North shows four Main Street properties are applying for CIP grants to support downtown revitalization

MOUNT FOREST – Wellington North staff are recommending approving four grants through the Community Improvement Program (CIP) totalling up to $17,500 for Mount Forest Main Street properties.

Wellington North’s CIP allows the municipality to provide grants to individuals, businesses and organizations who are making improvements to their building to support revitalization and redevelopment. 

Cordon Canada Ltd. who own the property at 250 Main St. S. intend to demolish the remaining commercial structure and build a new commercial unit with three residential units on the second floor and one on the main floor. The property was previously a restaurant that has been vacant for years. The report says staff believe the applicant is eligible for up to $10,000. 

2452238 Ontario Inc., owners of 281 Main St. S. currently occupied by Youngsters on Main and Stumbled Upon and second floor apartments plan to improve the front exterior through repainting, new lighting and removing an old awning. The report is recommending approving $2,500.

Claudette Liske, business and property owner of Forest Physiotherapy at 190 Main St. S is looking to improve the facade of the building. This includes repainting a majority of the building including the trim and shutters. Staff are recommending a $2,500 grant.

Northview Properties, owners of a commercial plaza at 392 Main St. N are looking to put up a commercial sign to promote new and soon-to-open businesses in the plaza. The report recommends $2,500 towards this project.

The report says with these applications, $48,728 would have been approved year-to-date of $50,000 available for 2020.
