The University of Guelph is warning its students after a high risk offender with a history of sexual assaults on strangers who recently released from custody was found sleeping on campus Monday.

The U of G's Campus Safety office issued the alert Monday.

Guelph police issued a warning March 1 that Medhani Yohans, 35, was released by Correctional Services and that they considered him a risk to the community, particularly to women.

"He has a history of violence, that includes two stranger sexual assaults," said the Guelph police release.

"The Guelph Police Service believes that Yohans poses a risk to the community, particularly to women, and are concerned that he may commit similar offences in the future."

The Campus Safety Office posted Monday: "On March 1st, 2025, Guelph Police Service released a community safety bulletin throughout the City of Guelph regarding a High-Risk Offender that was being released from custody.

"On March 10th, 2025 at 12:00 am, this male was located sleeping on campus and was immediately removed by Campus Safety Officers (CSO)."

The CSO said if anyone sees the individual on campus they should contact CSO immediately.

Yohans lived in Guelph for the eight years prior to being incarcerated.

"Guelph Police ask that anyone who sees him, do not approach him, but rather notify police at 519-824-1212, in order to ensure he is abiding by his conditions," Guelph police posted a little over a week ago.
