Major crime investigations and staffing vacancies are continuing to present challenges on Guelph police’s overtime budget.
And it’s expected to be that way through the end of the year.
According to a report heading to Thursday’s Guelph Police Services Board meeting, the service is about $145,000 over its paid overtime budget through the first six months of this year.
The report states banked and paid overtime is down 1,651 straight time hours year-over-year.
“Overtime is being monitored due to the unpredictability of some causes, which have the potential to materially affect the Services’ financial results,” the report added.
It comes after police overtime was $822,000 over budget in all of 2023.
Things ramped up in the final three months of last year.
For comparison, last year’s overtime spending was $344,000 over budget as of the end of September.
