The Community Resource Centre (CRC) of North and Centre Wellington has a secret…and they have kept it for 27 years!

“The secret is our chili recipe,” smiled CRC Coordinator of Community Engagement and Fund Development, Ali Kane-DeCair. “We have used this recipe for our Chilifest fundraiser ever since the beginning, 27 years ago.”

The CRC of North and Centre Wellington is a community benefit agency which offers programs and support to everyone in the community, ensuring everyone has a chance to succeed.

“Our Chilifest fundraiser supports our Community Outreach and Support Services, which rely solely on donations and grants,” explained Kane-DeCair. She added, “This includes our Backpack Program, Summer Snax, and Winter Wear Program, to name a few.”

What is Chilifest, and how can you support it?

“Chilifest is happening September 27 and delivers lunch to over 400 individuals and 50 businesses throughout Wellington County, including sponsored Chiligrams to various retirement/senior residents in Wellington North and Centre Wellington,” said Kane-DeCair.

“Folks have the option of picking up their meal from the Legion in Fergus, or having it delivered, free of charge,” she added.
Each meal includes one bowl of meat or vegetarian chili, coleslaw, dinner roll, butter, cookies and juice, and can be purchased for only $15. “We have made our chili serving size larger this year, so it really is a great deal,” said Kane-DeCair.

Not a chili fan, or not in need of lunch that day? Or just want to help someone else out?

“People also have the option to order a sponsored lunch for a senior in the community, in addition or instead of their own meal. That lunch comes with a children’s drawing and a poem, to brighten that senior’s day,” explained Kane-DeCair. “The sponsored lunch can be purchased for only $12…we call it a ‘Chiligram’!”

In addition to the chili lunches, community members can purchase 50/50 tickets for $5 each, 3 for $10, with every meal purchase. The winning ticket will be drawn on September 27 at 3 p.m. and announced on the CRC website and social media.

“With Chilifest, not only will you enjoy a delicious lunch delivered right to your work or home, but you are supporting a cause that helps your community grow and develop,” said Kane-DeCair enthusiastically.

She added, “Chilifest buyers are ensuring that all individuals have a helping hand through all life’s struggles and challenges - creating a community where everyone has the chance to succeed.”
