Just a day before he was scheduled to go to trial on child pornography charges, a former Fergus elementary school teacher has pleaded guilty.
Darwin Harrison pleaded guilty in Guelph's Ontario Court of Justice to possessing child porn. Sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 11 in Guelph.
Harrison was initially arrested in April 2023, and charged with possessing child pornography, making child pornography available and accessing child pornography. The other two charges have not been officially dropped.
Guelph police did not release his name at the time of his arrest.
When GuelphToday inquired about the case, a spokesperson alluded to a two-month investigation in February 2023, which included a search of a Guelph apartment.
The 40-year-old was listed as a long-term occasional teacher at J.D. Hogarth Public School in Fergus.
He is currently listed as "inactive/non-practising" on the Ontario College of Teachers' website.
