Guelph Royals crushed again

Slumping squad has given up total of 60 runs in its last three games

It's been a rough week - and season - for the Guelph Royals.

On Saturday at Hastings Stadium they were beaten 18-2 by the Kitchener Panthers, falling to 1-10 on the season, dead last in the Inter-County Baseball League.

The Royals have now surrendered a total of 60 runs in their last three games. They play in Kitchener on Sunday afternoon.

On Saturday five different Royals pitchers gave up a combined 23 hits and nine walks to the Panthers.

Three of those hits were home runs off the bat of Kitchener slugger Sean Reilly, who also had six RBIs in the game. Reilly now has a league-leading eight home runs and 21 RBIs on the season.

Guelph managed seven hits in the game, including a double by Quinton Bent and a triple by Mike Kidd.

Matt McGovern earned the pitching win for the Panthers, giving up six hits and two runs in seven innings of work.

Cam Gray took the loss for Guelph, giving up nine runs, seven hits and five walks in two innings.

Next home game for the Royals is Tuesday when Barrie is in town.
