Guelph's Jesse Zesseu locks in for a practice throw of the discus during a training session at the University of Guelph in July. Zesseu has won silver in the discus throw at the Paralympic Games.

A Paralympic medal is heading back to Guelph.

Jesse Zesseu won silver in the discus throw event Friday morning in the F37 classification.

His silver was won on a throw of 53.24 metres, just about four metres shy of gold.

Zesseu trains with Royal City Athletics and lives full-time in Guelph.

He was born in Cameroon and moved to Canada with his parents at the age of five. He grew up in Toronto, and moved to Guelph in 2017 to attend the University of Guelph.

Zesseu was born with cerebral palsy on his left side after having a stroke at birth.

When he was working with Cerebral Palsy Ontario, he was asked about what sports he did.

The conversation quickly sent him on a path toward Paris when he was told his race times in high school would've qualified him for the Paralympics in Rio in 2016.
