Fergus native Rob Black has been chosen by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to represent Ontario in the Senate.
Black and Martha Deacon were announced Thursday.
Black has served on Wellington County council since 2014 and has a long history in the agricultural sector.
Since 2010 he has served as the chief executive officer of the Rural Ontario Institute.
Prior to that he had a long career in the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, served as 4-H Ontario’s first executive director, the general manager of the Ontario Soybean Growers and the executive director of The Centre for Rural Leadership. He’s been involved with the 4-H youth organization for over 40 years.
Black, a University of Guelph grad, has also been involved with the Wellington County Historical Society, Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games, the Ontario Trillium Foundation and the Ontario Agricultural Hall of Fame.
