Looks as if a strike has been averted for the union representing about 2,300 teaching assistants, graduate service assistants and sessional lecturers at the University of Guelph.
A tentative deal has been struck between CUPE Local 3913 and U of G.
The union, which had scheduled a strike vote to begin Tuesday, posted the update on social media.
“We have achieved truly historic wins in this bargaining process that have been made possible by the unprecedented levels of engagement we have had with our members,” the union said in a statement.
Details of the agreement were not disclosed.
CUPE had been looking for livable wages, balanced work loads and more mental health support.
The union received 92 per cent support in a strike mandate vote in February. A rally was held by union members on Saturday.
The union plans to hold a ratification meeting on March 28 to give members an overview of the bargaining process.
A ratification vote is scheduled between March 29 and Apr. 5.
