The University of Guelph is taking its next step as officials consider what action to take, if any, following this summer’s six-week encampment on school property.

It is responding to an expression of concern submitted by the group who referred to themselves as the People’s Plaza for Palestine.

The concern centres around U of G’s endowment investment portfolio.

A petition was submitted to U of G before the encampment was set up in May, calling for divestment.

The school said it “initiated a process” to strike an ad hoc committee to review the submission.

As part of the process, the committee is asking for written responses to the submission from students, faculty, staff and alumni by Sept. 20.

In June, president Charlotte Yates stated in a letter the school disclosed its investments to the People's Plaza.

Interested people are asked to send a response via email, including their name or the name of the group you're representing, and affiliation with the university.

“Neither the submissions nor the names associated with them will be posted publicly by the university,” the school said in a news release.

“A reminder of the opportunity to provide written submissions will be sent to students later in September, once classes have commenced.”

A report is expected to be submitted to the school’s finance committee.

From there, a final recommendation will be made to the school’s board of governors.
