St. Joseph’s Health Centre Guelph has terminated the employment of seven staffers who were not in compliance with the mandatory vaccine mandate.

The deadline to provide vaccination status was set for Dec. 15.

On Friday, Sandra Ramelli, integrated vice-president of people & strategy at St. Joseph’s Health Centre Guelph, confirmed the centre had gone ahead with the decision to terminate employment for staff who are not in compliance with the mandatory vaccination policy.

On Nov. 29, St. Joseph’s Health Centre Guelph had 10 staffers who were yet to be in compliance with the mandate,

The vaccination rate amongst all staffers at the deadline was nearly 99 per cent.

This means at the deadline, the of the health centres 649 staff members, 642 are in compliance with the mandatory vaccine policy.

The province mandated COVID vaccinations for long-term care staff, with the original deadline set for Nov. 15 which required all in-home staff, support workers, students and volunteers to be vaccinated unless they have a valid medical exemption.

That deadline, however, was pushed back to Dec. 15 when all individuals were required to provide proof of their second dose of a COVID vaccine or face termination.
