There will be several opportunities for Guelph residents to pay their respects on Remembrance Day, including the annual legion colour parade to the Sleeman Centre and ceremony there.
The Nov. 11 activities kick off at the McCrae Birthplace Memorial on Water Street with a service at 9 a.m.
Beginning at 10 a.m. a legion colour parade is set to march from outside the Guelph Armoury on Farquhar Street to the Sleeman Centre on Woolwich Street.
The colour party is set to march onto the floor at 10:40 a.m. for the ceremony.
Following that, the parade will form up again on Courthouse Lane and march along Woolwich Street to the cenotaph, turn left onto Wyndham Street and finish at Farquhar.
A Remembrance Day service is also planned for Woodlawn Memorial Park at 10:45 a.m.
That same day, starting at 2 p.m., Yorklands Green Hub is offering a guided walk through the former Ontario Reformatory site on York Road. That tour is to focus on the site’s military history, including the Speedwell Hospital which treated wounded veterans during the First World War.
More information about the tour can be found here.
On Nov. 10, Guelph Public Library will host a special Remembrance Day storytime with retired sergeant Allison Riddell, offered virtually beginning at 10:30 a.m. For more information, visit here.
