The University of Guelph’s Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) has been ranked first in Canada, third in North America and seventh globally in the 2019 World University Rankings.
“We challenge our students to be forward-thinking in understanding, creating and finding solutions to real-world issues and, in turn, improve life for people and animals in Canada and beyond,” said Jeff Wichtel, OVC dean, said in the release.
“This recognition supports our international reputation as leaders within One Health – protecting the health of animals, people and the environment.”
The annual World University Rankings by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), an international education network, name the world’s best universities in 48 academic subjects. QS looked at some 1,000 universities from 151 countries, the most comprehensive global overview by discipline of higher education.
The survey considers such factors as overall research impact and academic and institutional reputation. Schools are graded based on academic and employer reputation and research impact.
One of five accredited veterinary colleges in Canada, OVC currently holds almost $40 million in research funding through more than 300 research grants.
New graduates from the college’s Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program consistently rank highly in employer satisfaction surveys and are fully employed within six months of graduating.
