A new documentary on the "patron saint of Canadian food" will premiere tonight at the University of Guelph's Arboretum Centre.

Created in partnership with Canada Beef and Food Day Canada, the Arrell Food Institute has created a new documentary called A Nation's Table to celebrate the legacy of Fergus food journalist and author Anita Stewart, known for her contributions to uncovering stories celebrating Canadian cuisine and her creation of the Food Day Canada initiative.

"Through her life of activism on food and the people who bring it to us, she turned crisis into opportunity, setting the table for Canada to build its culinary traditions into an evolving food system that's the envy of the world," said the County of Wellington in a media release on the event.

Running from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 25, tickets for the event include the film screening, a reception catered by the University of Guelph's Hospitality Services and panel discussions featuring the filmmakers, food experts like Ohemaa Boateng the executive director of Black Creek Farm and researchers in the food industry.

Senator Rob Black will also speak during the event.

Post-premiere, the documentary will soon be available to watch on the Arrell Food Institute website for free.

Admission is free and registration is required to attend.
