Guelph’s Owyn McInnis was an adventurous, curious and sports-loving person.

He played for the Thompson Rivers University’s (TRU) volleyball team and was an outside hitter.

McInnis, 22, was killed on Nov. 29 in a multi-car collision in Kamloops, B.C.

Two of his volleyball teammates were in the car and are in the Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, as reported in the Vancouver Island Free Daily.

McInnis attended John F. Ross CVI and was part of the Guelph Jr. Storm as well as the Guelph Regals, as said in his obituary

“Owyn had beautiful athletic talents and man, was he smart. Drove us nuts how brilliant he was. As parents, we were so proud how he conducted himself in life and how he showed so much compassion for others. His quick wit, sense of humour and dancing on the side had everyone smiling,” the obituary states.

On the TRU’s WolfPack website it said there is a scholarship fund dedicated to honouring McInnis. It is called the Owyn McInnis Memorial Men's Volleyball Athletic Award.

“Owyn was a son, brother, fiancé, teammate and so much more. He brightened the day of anyone lucky enough to talk with him and we miss him greatly,” said on the page.

In the obituary, McInnis' family thanked people for reaching out and said they are in “shock however can feel the love that is being sent our way."

The family did not wish to speak to the media, requesting privacy at this time, as iterated to GuelphToday from Robert Koopmans, communications officer at TRU.
