Guelph splash pad torn up, city says concrete didn't set correctly

Splash pad still on track to be done by the end of the year - no additional budgetary cost

Call it a take two on a concrete pour for the splash pad under construction at a Guelph park.

Construction crews are tearing up the concrete it poured recently at Margaret Greene Park because it didn’t set correctly.

“The surface finish doesn’t meet the expected standard,” Zachary Cox, a communications officer with the City of Guelph, explained in an email.

“In this case, repair attempts were not enough to bring the surface to standard, so the contractor is removing and redoing the concrete. Work to remove the existing concrete began on Friday.”

Cox said despite the setback, the project is still on track to be completed by the end of the year. There will also be no additional cost facing the city as a result.
