Focus on Nature is migrating online for an upcoming fundraising event to support its programming.
Focus On Nature Fest is a new, week-long virtual event offering webinars, photo galleries, auctions, giveaways and daily prizes. It will also be selling packages of 10 greeting cards which feature photos taken by students who participated in their summer camps and school programs last year.
"Our hope is to expand it to everyone." says Brittany Barton, marketing and social media assistant for Focus on Nature.
"We wanted to make it where anyone can participate in it and it didn't have to be our usual age demographic."
From Nov. 16 to Nov. 20., all festival activities will be available on their social media and online platforms. To register for the event, click here.
Barton says all the money raised during the festival will go towards current and future programs. Focus on Nature is aiming to raise $10,000.
She adds since in-class programming has been non-existent during the pandemic, Focus on Nature has been developing a digital platform called Focus on Nature Online, so they can reach more people outside of Guelph.
"Our hope is to expand it to everyone," says Barton, "We...like that this is making us accessible to not just our region, but across Ontario and across Canada." says
"Since it's all online, anyone can find our program, and sign up for it and be interested in the...events we have going on."
As the pandemic continues, Barton says Focus on Nature is encouraging more people to get outside, whether it’s going out to take photos or going on a hike.
“A lot of people are going on more hikes and stuff, so we want to show them that there are more fun things you can do with it while still being safe and distant." says Barton, "Hopefully broadening people's horizons on nature and nature photography itself."
