Ontario Provincial Police is asking drivers to obey road closure signs put up in areas flooded by heavy rainfall.
Highway 7 is closed between Guelph city limits and Wellington Road 29 in Guelph-Eramosa Township.
In addition, the Township of Guelph-Eramosa said the following roads are closed due to flooding:
Sixth Line north of Wellington Road 50
Seventh Line - Between Sideroad 20 and Wellington Road 22
Fourth Line between Wellington Road 124 and Sideroad 20
Fourth Line between Wellington Road 124 and Sideroad 20
The township hopes to have those portions of road restored within the next couple of days.
The OPP West Region Twitter account is telling drivers not to chance driving across flooded roadways.
“This can and often results in serious consequence. Water is fast moving, dangerously cold with many hidden objects to drag you under once submerged,” said a Tweet by @OPP_WR
Grand River Conservation Authority said in a press release Tuesday that 20-30mm of rainfall was received over the Grand RIver watershed, with another 20-25mm expected in the next 24 hours.
“These current weather conditions are melting the remaining snowpack across the watershed and resulting in very high flows in rivers and streams across the watershed. This will result in flows similar to those experienced during normal spring flooding,” said the release by Grand River Conservation Authority.
