Visitors restrictions are in place for part of Guelph General Hospital, following a COVID outbreak declared on Thursday.

The declaration was made in consultation with Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health officials after two patients within the fourth floor east wing unit acquired the virus while at the hospital.

“Several steps have been taken to keep the virus from spreading,” states a post on GGH’s website.

Those steps include COVID testing of all patients in the unit, “appropriate additional precautions” for all, closing the unit to visitors except on compassionate grounds, as well as increased cleaning of high-touch and high-traffic areas.

Visitors to GGH continue to be required to wear masks in all clinical areas including waiting rooms, nursing stations and in patient rooms – a measure put in place earlier this month in response to rising COVID cases within the community.
