GUELPH SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

The Guelph Symphony Orchestra along with the Guelph Youth Music Centre (GYMC) is very pleased to announce the appointment of Alexander Cannon as the new music director of the Guelph Youth Symphony Orchestra.
“We’re thrilled to have Alexander take on this role, which is linked to the assistant conductor position with GSO” commented Catherine Molina, General Manager of the Guelph Symphony Orchestra. “Maestro Cannon is a passionate educator and when he stepped in to take several rehearsals with the GSO this season, we were so impressed with his skill, musical insights and inspiring manner.”
About Alexander
Dr. Alexander Cannon has served as the Assistant Conductor for both the Vancouver Philharmonic Orchestra and the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony. He has also conducted youth orchestras at the El Sistema-modeled social program at the Saint James Music Academy in Vancouver and served as the Head of Brass at the Vancouver Academy of Music.
His students have been accepted to performance programs at Interlochen, the University of British Columbia, the University of Toronto, and the Curtis Institute.
As a trumpeter, Dr. Cannon has performed with Vancouver Opera and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.

The Guelph Youth Symphony Orchestra provides the community`s talented young musicians with the opportunity to flourish in a vibrant and exciting musical environment, developing orchestral, musical and team skills with their peers.
The GYSO was established in 2011 when a partnership was struck by the Guelph Symphony Orchestra (GSO) and Guelph Youth Music Centre (GYMC) to collaborate in the operation and support of Guelph’s only youth symphony.
