A stretch of Wyndham Street South was closed for hours Monday morning while a suspicious package was detonated outside the Guelph police station.
An officer discovered the package outside the station’s main doors just after 8 a.m. After initial examination of the package was unable to determine its nature, the Waterloo Regional Police Service’s Explosives Disposal Unit was called to assist, police said.
EDU officers utilized a remote control robot to approach and detonate the package, which was found not to contain any explosive material. The area was also searched by a WRPS Canine Unit trained to detect explosives. Roads in the area reopened approximately noon.
The investigation is ongoing.
