GuelphToday received the following Letter to the Editor from reader Zach O’Connor, who expresses concerns with an upcoming presentation from members of the Guelph Police Service to children in grade 1, 2 and 3 at Ecole King George:

Editor:

I am writing regarding my concerns with the upcoming presentation from members of the Guelph Police Service to children in grade 1, 2 and 3 at Ecole King George.

I would implore everyone to explore how collaboration with GPS might affect children.

Let’s empathize with the fear and confusion that welcoming police into the school might cause.

Then, let’s follow the example of other community organizations who have chosen not to include the GPS in their programming.

Let’s cancel the Nov. 20 police presentations and let’s put this issue to rest. Except in times of emergency, schools should be off limits to cops. We owe that level of safety and comfort to our children.

Thanks,

Zach O’Connor,
Guelph
