MAPLETON – Emergency asphalt repairs are being done on Bosworth Bridge after a "significant' asphalt failure Monday evening.
According to a new update given to Mapleton council Tuesday afternoon, approximately 400 square metres of asphalt on both the east and west approaches of Bosworth Bridge on Wellington Road 7 need to be removed after a "significant failure" in the asphalt was identified on both approaches.
While the bridge was closed at 5:30 pm on Monday evening, staff said an excavator is now onsite and work on the bridge is anticipated to start first thing tomorrow morning with repaving planned for Friday.
Staff said they intend to have the bridge open by the weekend or mid-way through the weekend, depending on weather and how the paving goes.
Wellington Road 7 between Wellington Road 11 and Wellington Road 12 is closed during repairs with emergency access only. Traffic is being rerouted down Wellington Road 8 in the meantime.
Staff confirmed the bridge is planned to close again this spring for additional paving work.
